Several Arrested and Injured as Protest Continue for Mapuche Political Prisoners on Hunger Strike

October 23rd, 2012

Two new demonstrated were carried out in Concepcion and Santiago, where the support for the Mapuche on hunger strike was portrayed despite the police repression that tried to have it silenced.

In Concepcion there were over 100 people that congregated at the main Court building, and were greeted aggressively by a group of Special Force Police Units, provoking confrontation with protestors.

However, people were not intimidated and continued marching through the pedestrian passages of the city, where they were insistently followed by police.

Nine people were arrested, among them members of the Support Network of Communities in Struggle, Mapuche youth centres, and high school youth. Some even bled from the police beatings, beings taken to the Lomas Verdes Police Division.

Meanwhile, in Santiago, dozens of people congregated in the main downtown artery, La Alameda, with banners and placards, as well as barricades installed to stop traffic and call attention to the 59 days that the four Mapuche Political Prisoners have carried out on Hunger Strike.
