Mapuche Political Prisoners in Temuco Maintain DRY Hunger Strike and Call to Mobilize
Oct 21st, 2012
Communique:
We inform national and international opinion that despite the fact that 21 days have passed since we began the hunger strike, our petitions have not been heard, much less solved by the Gendarmerie of Chile, therefore:
Kiñe [One]: Beginning Friday, October 19th, we have undertaken a DRY hunger strike, as an only means that the State has left us to achieve our minimal rights as inmates of Temuco Prison.
We have exhausted all bureaucratic protocols in order to achieve our petitions, which are the following:
– OUR IMMEDIATE TRANSFER, THE 5 MAPUCHE POLITICAL PRISONERS, TO THE ANGOL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY AS THE CLOSEST SITE TO OUR FAMILIES.
– AN END TO THE HUMILIATIONS & DEGRADING STRIP SEARCHES BY THE CHILEAN GENDARMERIE TO OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS WHO VISIT.
– THE DISMISSAL OF PROSECUTOR CHAMORRO OF ALL MAPUCHE CASES, FOR HIS LACK OF ETHIC AND OBJECTIVITY IN PROCEEDINGS.
However, we have only received strategies to detain our strike, without any intention of solving the above mentioned.
The principle response on the part of the Gendarmerie of Chile, through the Chief Guard of Temuco Correctional, stated that this would relate to political matters and that contrary to any other inmate, in our case they do not have the autonomy to decide or solve anything, clearly showing the persecution on the part of the Chilean State towards our People and our cause.
Epu [Two]: On our 21st day on hunger strike, and our third without the consumption of water, our state of health has been affected considerably, presenting cardiac problems, migraines, muscle and abdominal pain, and clear evidence of deterioration in our communicational capacity.
Kula [Three]: From the Temuco Prison, we ask our Peñi [Brothers] and Lamnien [Sisters] their maximum solidarity, considering and recognizing that any form of struggle is necessary to achieve the liberation of our People and our Territory. We ask to daily distribute information and accompany our family, since they make a daily effort to be with us from the Lof [Community] and support us in the demands for our rights.
Meli [Four]: We inform the media and the Peñi [Brothers] and Lanien [Sisters] to stay vigilant on our health and struggle. These are our spokespeople and their telephones are:
Fredy Marileo: 6317***0
Carola Marileo: 9636***4
We clarify that the information given from the Gendarmerie or any institution of the Chilean State is false, since their only interest is hiding the struggle that we are carrying out in the Correctional Centre of Temuco for our transfer to the Angol Correctional Centre.
STOP THE SET-UPS, PERSECUTION & DETENTION OF OUR PEOPLE!
STOP THE STATE TERRORISM AGAINST OUR ELDERS, MOTHERS WOMEN & CHILDREN!
FOR THE LIBERATION OF OUR TERRITORY AND OUR PEOPLE!
