Around 10 People Arrested after Police Repress Mapuche March in Concepcion

October 19th, 2012

Family, Mapuche leaders and support networks marched once again on the streets of the city of Concepcion in support of the four Mapuche that are now on their 55th Day on Hunger Strike and the 5 Mapuche prisoners in Temuco that began their Dry Hunger Strike on their 19th day without food.

The march was violently repressed by special police forces, which has been the usual in the last few days, portraying the concern of Chilean authorities unto the growing support of the Mapuche hunger strike.

Around 10 people have been detained and injured by the police, amoung them Juana and Gabirela Montoya, mother and sister respectively of Mapuche Political Prisoner Erick Montoya, the hunger striker that continues being held at the Regional Hospital in Concepcion, after the rest were transferred.

Other minors were detained, as was a Secondary student leader and several members of the Support Network to the Communities in Struggle. All were taken to report injuries to the Costanera health clinic and later taken to the First and Forth Police Division.
